Effectiveness of a brief group psychological intervention for women in a post-conflict setting in Pakistan: A single-blind, cluster, randomised controlled trial
The Lancet May 01, 2019
Rahman A, et al. - In this single-blind, cluster, randomized controlled trial involving 306 women in the intervention group and 306 women in the enhanced usual care group, researchers analyzed the effect of a brief group psychological intervention in a conflict-affected setting in rural Swat, Pakistan. The intervention included five sessions with behavioral strategies facilitated by non-specialists. Investigators observed that women in the intervention group had significantly lower mean total Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale scores vs women in the control group at 3 months. Overall, they concluded that the psychological intervention group resulted in a clinically significant 3-month reduction in anxiety and depressive symptoms and could be feasible and efficacious for women in rural settings with post-conflict psychological distress.
