Effectiveness and safety of glucosamine and chondroitin for the treatment of osteoarthritis: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Jul 13, 2018
Zhu X, et al. - Authors evaluated the symptomatic efficacy and safety of oral symptomatic slow-acting drugs (SYSADOAs) on the treatment of knee and/or hip osteoarthritis, such as chondroitin, glucosamine, and combination treatment with chondroitin plus glucosamine. In view of the efficacy of these symptomatic slow-acting drugs, experts noted a greater effectiveness of oral chondroitin vs placebo on relieving pain and improving physical function. An effect on stiffness outcome was demonstrated by glucosamine. Clinical decision making could be possible with this information accompanied with the tolerability and economic costs of included treatments.
