Effectiveness and equity of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusions in pediatric type 1 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature

Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Dec 27, 2020

Santos TJD, de Mata Donado Campos J, Argente J, et al. - A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials and non-randomized studies (NRS) were performed to investigate the efficacy and equity of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusions (CSII) vs multiple-daily injections (MDI) on glycemic outcomes. Between 2000 and 2019, researchers carried out to search MEDLINE, CENTRAL, EMBASE, and HTA. Of the 578 articles screened, they enrolled 16 RCT (545 CYP on CSII) and 70 NRS (73253 on CSII) in the meta-analysis. It was recorded that CSII modestly lower HbA1c in comparison with MDI. According to the findings, the current literature does not provide adequate data on other glycemic outcomes. Further evaluation of diabetes technology should include individual and area-level socioeconomic data.
