Effective relief of pain and associated symptoms with closed-loop spinal cord stimulation system: Preliminary results of the Avalon study
Neuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface Sep 22, 2017
Russo M, et al. - In this study, researchers evaluate the safety and efficacy of closed-loop spinal cord stimulation system in terms of relieving pain and associated symptoms through six-month postimplantation. At three and six months, majority of subjects reported marked pain relief, providing preliminary evidence for the effectiveness of the closed-loop spinal cord stimulation (SCS) system. The exact mechanism of action for these outcomes needs further exploration, although one likely hypothesis holds that evoked compound action potentials (ECAPs) feedback control may minimize recruitment of Aβ nociceptors and Aδ fibers during daily use of SCS.
