Effect of zoledronic acid on reducing femoral bone mineral density loss following total hip arthroplasty: a meta-analysis from randomized controlled trails
International Journal of Surgery Aug 24, 2017
Gao J et al. – This meta–analysis of four randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluated the efficiency of intravenous administration of zoledronic acid on reducing femoral periprosthetic bone mineral density loss in patients undergoing primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). Overall, the study concluded that there was a significant reduction in the periprosthetic bone mineral density loss observed with intravenous administration of zoledronic acid (Gruen zone 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7). Moreover, there were no severe adverse events observed in the study.
