Effect of xenon anesthesia compared to sevoflurane and total intravenous anesthesia for coronary artery bypass graft surgery on postoperative cardiac troponin release: An international, multicenter, phase 3, single-blinded, randomized noninferiority trial
Anesthesiology Nov 17, 2017
Hofland J, et al. - This research was undertaken to investigate if xenon anesthesia could limit myocardial damage in coronary artery bypass graft surgery patients. In low-risk patients who underwent on-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery, it was observed that xenon was noninferior to sevoflurane with respect to postoperative cardiac troponin I release. In addition, findings revealed that only with xenon was cardiac troponin I release less than with total intravenous anesthesia. Data demonstrated safety as well as feasibility of xenon anesthesia.
