Effect of tranexamic acid on transfusion: A randomized clinical trial in acetabular fracture surgery
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Oct 05, 2017
Lack WD, et al. - This study assessed the impact of tranexamic acid (TXA) versus placebo, administered during acetabular fracture surgery, on transfusion. Findings revealed that TXA versus placebo did not significantly differ in terms of transfusion rate, estimated blood loss (EBL), or venous thromboembolism (VTE). Furthermore, other factors, specifically preoperative anemia and surgical time, which highly vary in trauma surgery, seemed to overwhelm any potential benefit. Overall, routine use of TXA was not supported, in the setting of open reduction and internal fixation of acetabular fractures.
