Effect of time to operation on outcomes in adults who underwent emergency general surgery procedure
Journal of Surgical Research Jun 16, 2018
Wood T, et al. - Researchers evaluated time to surgery from arrival to the Emergency Department (ED) as an independent risk factor for morbidity and mortality among patients who underwent an emergency general surgery procedure from 2013 to 2015. A local American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (ACS-NSQIP) database was utilized to identify these patients. Outcomes support the previous data suggesting increased morbidity and mortality in patients who are older, have multiple comorbidities, and higher ASA class. The final analysis including 974 patients demonstrated that time from ED presentation to OR was not predictive of mortality.
