Effect of statins on total mortality in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Vascular Surgery Jan 24, 2021
Risum O, Sandven I, Sundhagen JO, et al. - In this study, the evidence from published epidemiological studies examining the efficacy of statin therapy on long term survival in patients after abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair has been summarized. A systematic literature search yielded 14 eligible cohort studies of which 11 were identified to be of high quality. As per pooled estimate, statin treatment among 69,790 AAA patients with a median follow up of 3.1 years was correlated with a 35% relative decrease in total mortality with moderate heterogeneity and no small study effect. Evidence thus gained suggested that statins have beneficial effects on long term survival in patients treated by AAA repair.
