Effect of statin use on oncologic outcomes in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
Head & Neck Jun 28, 2018
Lebo NL, et al. - Experts ascertained if incidental statin use in patients with human papillomavirus (HPV)-negative HNSCC was predictive of improved oncologic outcomes. In 1,194 patients from the Ontario Cancer Registry diagnosed with HNSCC from 2007 to 2012, this retrospective cohort study compared patients taking statins vs controls in terms of overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS). At the time of diagnosis of HPV-negative squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx, hypopharynx, and nasopharynx, improved OS and DSS were demonstrated by incidental statin use.
