Effect of standard vs intensive blood pressure control on cerebral blood flow in small vessel disease: The PRESERVE randomized clinical trial
JAMA Neurology Mar 20, 2018
Croall ID, et al. - This research was initiated in order to examine if standard vs intensive blood pressure (BP) lowering over 3 months led to decreased cerebral perfusion in small vessel disease among patients with hypertension and with magnetic resonance imaging–confirmed symptomatic lacunar infarct and confluent white matter hyperintensities. Data did not disclose any variations when the analysis assessed gray or white matter only or was confined to those achieving target BP. No variations were reported in the number of adverse events between treatment groups. Hence, it was inferred that intensive BP lowering did not reduce cerebral perfusion in severe small vessel disease.
