Effect of sociodemographic variables on patient and diagnostic delay of breast cancer at the foremost health care institution in Nigeria

Olarewaju SO, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis, researchers focused on the varieties and extent of delay in breast cancer (BC) diagnosis at the foremost hospital in Nigeria. They also investigated the influencing factors. From August to October 2018, 275 patients with BC at University College Hospital, Ibadan, Nigeria, were inquired via questionnaires. According to the findings, both delays in patient presentation at clinics and delays in the process of being diagnosed challenged BC management at the pioneer Nigerian teaching hospital. Findings revealed a significant link of patient delay with age, ethnicity, and marital status, and a significant link of marital status with diagnostic delay. In order to attain a favorable result of patients with BC in Nigeria, such delays required to be addressed.
