Effect of slower vs faster intravenous fluid bolus rates on mortality in critically ill patients
JAMA Sep 11, 2021
Zampieri FG, Machado FR, Biondi RS, et al. - A slower intravenous fluid infusion rate did not link with reduced 90-day mortality among critically ill patients requiring fluid challenges when compared with a faster infusion rate.
A randomized clinical trial including 10,520 patients in 75 ICUs in Brazil.
Ninety-day mortality of 26.6% vs 27.0% was recorded in correlation with treatment with fluid boluses at 333 mL/h vs 999 mL/h, a difference that was not statistically significant.
