Effect of sleeve gastrectomy on platelet counts and mean platelet volumes
Obesity Surgery May 05, 2018
Kutluturk F, et al. - In morbidly obese patients, researchers investigated the effect of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on potential of circulating platelets (PLTs) count and mean platelet volume (MPV). Among 205 patients who attended monitoring visits in the period prior to LSG and for 6 months after surgery, they performed a comparison of routine physical examination findings and laboratory parameters recorded preoperatively with the same parameters in the postoperative 6th month. Outcomes suggested decreased PLT counts and significantly increased MPV levels after LSG and that the decrease in PLT counts was independent of changes in BMI.
