Effect of slab thickness on the detection of pulmonary nodules by use of CT maximum and minimum intensity projection

American Journal of Roentgenology May 11, 2019

Li WJ, et al. - Via retrospectively analyzing chest CT data of 221 subjects with pulmonary nodules [categorized into 2 groups according to density: solid nodules (SNs) and subsolid nodules (SSNs)], researchers studied the impact of slab thickness on the detection of pulmonary nodules by use of maximum-intensity-projection (MIP) and minimum-intensity-projection (MinIP) to process CT images. The authors concluded that ten-millimeter MIP images for detecting SNs are extremely efficient. Three-millimeter MinIP images are more useful for visualizing SSNs, which is comparable to the efficiency achieved by using 1-mm axial images. Three-millimeter MinIP images are more useful for visualizing SSNs, being comparable to the efficiency achieved by using 1-mm axial images.
