Effect of sibship asthma on newborns with transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN)
The Clinical Respiratory Journal Nov 16, 2020
Gundogdu Z, et al. - The researcher investigated if older sibling asthma represents a risk factor for transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN). For this purpose, the expert analyzed medical records of 1,318 newborns from neonatal intensive care and delivery units. Via logistic regression analysis, the link between siblings’ asthma and TTN was assessed. The factors that were identified to be significantly related to TTN were: pre‐labour caesarean section (CS), maternal asthma, gestational age (GA), babies with large and small birth weight for GA, number of pregnancies and children (three and more). Common risk factors for the development of TTN were: pre‐labour CS and mothers with asthma. Findings revealed a link between TTN and siblings’ asthma even among infants whose mothers did not have asthma.
