Effect of sedentary lifestyle on cardiovascular disease risk among healthy adults with body mass indexes 18.5 to 29.9 kg/m2
The American Journal of Cardiology Dec 07, 2018
Mainous AG, et al. – In this investigation, researchers examined the association of sedentary lifestyle characteristics among healthy weight adults with risk of high cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared with overweight individuals. Using the 2011-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), they identified and analyzed data from adults aged 40-79 years at a healthy body mass index (BMI; 18.5-24.9) and overweight BMI (25-29.9; unweighted, n=4,572; weighted, n=43,919,354). For the evaluation of CVD risk, they used the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association atherosclerotic CVD (ASCVD) risk score. They found that characteristics of a sedentary lifestyle increased the likelihood of high CVD risk status to that of overweight individuals among those with a BMI at 18.5-24.9.
