Effect of sedative-hypnotic medicines on mortality in peritoneal dialysis patients with sleep disorders: A retrospective cohort study
Blood Purification Dec 21, 2017
Zhou Y, et al. - This investigation was pursued to elucidate mortality impact of sedative-hypnotic medications in peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients with sleep disorders. As per findings, more frequent users of these medications included older patients and patients with a longer duration of CAPD. Notably, no association was evident between these agents and all-cause mortality.
Methods
- Researchers employed logistic regression to identify factors related to sedative-hypnotic medication, whose impact on mortality was assessed via Cox proportional hazards models.
Results
- They recruited a total of 146 CAPD patients with sleep disorders.
- Use of either benzodiazepines or zolpidem was reported in 46 of the total patients (31.5%).
- Findings reported that older patients and those with longer duration of CAPD therapy used sedative-hypnotic medication more frequently.
- Data showed no significant link between sedative-hypnotic medicines and all-cause mortality after adjustment for age, gender, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and duration of CAPD.
