Effect of robotic-assisted vs conventional laparoscopic surgery on risk of conversion to open laparotomy among patients undergoing resection for rectal cancer: The ROLARR randomized clinical trial
JAMA Oct 28, 2017
Jayne D, et al. - Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery was compared to conventional laparoscopic surgery for risk of conversion to open laparotomy among patients undergoing resection for rectal cancer. In comparison with conventional laparoscopic surgery, robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery did not significantly reduce the risk of conversion to open laparotomy among these patients. The findings revealed that robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, when performed by surgeons with varying levels of experience with robotic surgery, did not offer an advantage in rectal cancer resection.
