Effect of prolonged exposure therapy delivered over 2 weeks vs 8 weeks vs present-centered therapy on PTSD symptom severity in military personnel: A randomized clinical trial
JAMA Feb 01, 2018
Foa EB, et al. - In this trial, the authors aimed to scrutinize the effects of the following therapies on the severity of the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD): Massed prolonged exposure therapy (massed therapy), spaced prolonged exposure therapy (spaced therapy), present-centered therapy (PCT), and a minimal-contact control (MCC) among military personnel. Massed therapy (10 sessions over 2 weeks) reduced the severity of the PTSD symptom to a greater extent than MCC at 2-week follow-up in cases of the active duty military personnel with PTSD. Massed therapy was found to be noninferior to spaced therapy (10 sessions over 8 weeks), and no notable variation was reported between spaced therapy and PCT. Findings disclosed relatively modest reductions in PTSD symptom severity with all treatments.
