Effect of preperitoneal vs epidural analgesia on postoperative inflammatory response and pain following radical cystectomy: A prospective, randomized trial
Clinical Journal of Pain Mar 14, 2019
Othman AH, et al. - Via this observer-blinded, randomized trial, researchers examined how postoperative inflammatory cytokines are influenced by continuous preperitoneal vs epidural analgesia. They randomly assigned 40 patients scheduled for radical cystectomy to receive continuous preperitoneal wound infiltration (PPB) or epidural analgesia (EDB). Patients who received continuous preperitoneal analgesia following radical cystectomy showed better attenuated postoperative inflammatory response with comparable overall analgesia to those receiving continuous epidural analgesia.
