Effect of preoperative immunonutrition on postoperative short-term outcomes of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

Aeberhard C, et al. - Experts evaluated the impact of perioperative immunonutrition on outcomes after elective surgery of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. A shorter hospital length of stay (LOS) and a lower rate for wound infections and local complications were noted in the patients receiving preoperative immunonutrition. After a multivariate adjustment, these effects remained robust. On subgroup analysis authors noted more pronounced impacts in patients with previous radiotherapy and extensive surgery.
