Effect of preoperative atrial fibrillation on patients with chronic heart failure who undergo long-term continuous-flow LVAD implantation
ASAIO Journal Aug 31, 2018
Kurihara C, et al. - Given the common occurrence of preoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients undergoing continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (CF-LVAD) implantation, researchers investigated the association of preoperative AF with outcomes via analyzing their single-center experience with patients with chronic heart failure undergoing CF-LVAD implantation. CF-LVAD recipients showed no lessening of perioperative or long-term survival or increased risk of postoperative stroke in relation to preoperative AF. Findings thereby suggest that it may be unnecessary to perform concomitant AF ablation during CF-LVAD implantation.
