Garofalo C, et al. - This trial initiated an inquiry of the possibility of post-operative acute kidney injury modifying the renal outcome over the long term. The observation made was that acute kidney injury after unilateral nephrectomy was commonly found. It illustrated a connection with progressive chronic kidney disease, particularly in older males.
