Effect of perioperative blood transfusion on prognosis of patients with gastric cancer: A retrospective analysis of a single center database
BMC Cancer Jun 15, 2018
Liu X, et al. - Researchers investigated whether there was an association between prognosis of patients with gastric cancer and perioperative blood transfusion. From 2000 to 2008, 1,581 patients with gastric cancer who underwent curative gastrectomy were assessed. Using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, the relationship between perioperative blood transfusion and prognosis was assessed. There was a statistically significant 5 year survival rate between patients who had perioperative blood transfusion (40%) and patients who did not have perioperative blood transfusion (55%). In patients with gastric cancer, perioperative blood transfusion independently correlated with poorer prognosis.
