Effect of paracetamol/prednisolone vs paracetamol/ibuprofen on post-operative recovery after adult tonsillectomy
American Journal of Otolaryngology May 23, 2018
Attia TM - Researcher sought to compare the impact of Paracetamol/Prednisolone vs Paracetamol/Ibuprofen on post-operative recovery after adult tonsillectomy. He noted the effectiveness of both ibuprofen and prednisolone as a part of post-operative medication regimen after adult tonsillectomy. Nonetheless, regarding the improvement of pain at rest, dietary intake, tiredness of speech and post-operative nausea and vomiting, prednisolone was superior to ibuprofen. However, ibuprofen demonstrated a better effect on sleep. Significantly higher incidence and severity of secondary post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage were seen with ibuprofen favouring the selection of prednisolone to be combined with paracetamol in the post-operative medication protocol after tonsillectomy.
