Obesity Jul 26, 2019
Dong Y, et al. - Using logistic regression and population-attributable risk analyses, researchers assessed secular high blood pressure (HBP) trends and the impacts of overweight and obesity on HBP between Chinese ethnic minority vs Han children and adolescents. In three successive national cross-sectional surveys (2005, 2010, and 2014), data were collected from 224,151 Chinese ethnic minority and 664,094 Han children and adolescents aged 7 to 18. According to findings, a greater prevalence of HBP, more rapid increase in obesity, and a stronger impact of obesity on HBP was seen in in Chinese ethnic minority children and adolescents, which forecasts the impending HBP problem in this population. Cardiovascular disease risks in ethnic minority children and adolescents needs more attention in order to reduce future adult risk.
