Effect of opioid-free anaesthesia on post-operative period in cardiac surgery: A retrospective matched case-control study
BMC Anesthesiology Aug 04, 2019
Guinot PG, Spitz A, Berthoud V, et al. - In this retrospective matched cohort study (1:1), researchers analyzed cardiac surgery patients with cardiopulmonary bypass, to assess how postoperative morphine consumption and the postoperative course were influenced by opioid-free anesthesia (OFA) use. The participants were categorized into 2 groups: OFA (lidocaine, dexamethasone and ketamine) or opioid anaesthesia (OA) (sufentanil). A total of 110 patients were matched (OFA: n = 55; OA: n = 55) in this study. Lower morphine consumption was reported in relation to OFA use. A possible association of OFA with shorter intubation time and ICU stays was also suggested.
