Effect of NSAIDs on bone healing rates: A meta-analysis
Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Mar 28, 2019
Wheatley BM, et al. - Investigators studied the data to evaluate the impact of NSAIDs on bone healing rates in terms of delayed union or nonunion. They noted delayed union, nonunion, or pseudarthrosis with at least 6 months of follow-up as the outcomes of interest. They found an increase in delayed union or nonunion due to NSAID exposure. They recorded no effect in pediatrics or low dose/short duration of exposure. They suggested the influence, dose or time-dependent as no impact on union rates was reported from low-dose/short-duration exposure.
