Effect of moderate and severe persistent hyperglycemia on outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage
Stroke Dec 03, 2021
Qureshi AI, Huang W, Lobanova I, et al. - In nondiabetic patients with intracerebral hemorrhage, an elevated risk of death or disability is conferred by persistent hyperglycemia (either moderate or severe).
This study included 1,000 patients with intracerebral hemorrhage enrolled within 4.5 hours of symptom onset.
Multivariate analysis showed higher 90-day death or disability in relation to both moderate (odds ratio, 1.8) and severe (odds ratio, 1.8) hyperglycemia, post-adjustments.
In cases without preexisting diabetes, an association of both moderate (odds ratio, 1.8) and severe (odds ratio, 2.0) hyperglycemia with 90-day death or disability was observed post-adjusting for potential confounders.
In patients with preexisting diabetes, there was no relation of moderate and severe hyperglycemia with 90-day death or disability.
