Effect of metformin use on the risk and prognosis of endometrial cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Cancer Apr 25, 2018
Chu D, et al. - Given prior studies that have suggested metformin may be beneficial for the prevention and treatment of endometrial cancer (EC), researchers studied the link between metformin use and risk and prognosis in patients with EC. Via a systematic review and meta-analysis using data from observational studies, metformin’s impact on treating and preventing EC was evaluated. Analyzing risks was done via the odds ratio (OR), and the hazard ratio (HR) was used to analyze survival outcomes. Data analysis was carried out using a random-effects model. No proof was found that metformin was beneficial for preventing EC. However, a prolonged overall survival and attenuated risk of cancer relapse could be possible with metformin use in patients with EC.
