Effect of metformin on glycaemic control in patients with type 1 diabetes: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews | Apr 30, 2018
Meng H, et al. - Using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases, authors sought to discern the efficacy and adverse effects of metformin in type 1 diabetes (T1D) patients. It was observed that metformin was not related to glycaemic control in T1D patients when compared with placebo. Despite displaying other benefits, such as lower BMI and reduced insulin requirements, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, negative outcomes, such as gastrointestinal adverse effects and severe hypoglycaemia, ought to be taken into account during the use of metformin for T1D patients.
