Effect of maternal education and encouragement on newborn care utilization: A health system intervention
BMC Pediatrics Jul 28, 2021
Kolahi AA, et al. - In this health system interventional study, researchers sought to determine the impact of delivering newborn-care-oriented education and encouragement on newborn care utilization. This investigation was conducted in the urban health centers of the catchment area of Tehran Defined Population, which covered 10 of the 22 municipality districts of Tehran. Four thousand eight hundred thirty-seven newborns (intervention = 1,544, control = 3,293) were analyzed. During the first 2 months after birth, the intervention improved newborn care utilization. It could be proposed that active follow-up be included in newborn care guidelines. Parents should be informed about the importance and benefits of newborn care and encouraged to attend all three newborn care visits.
