Effect of mannitol plus hypertonic saline combination vs hypertonic saline monotherapy on acute kidney injury after traumatic brain injury
Journal of Critical Care Mar 25, 2020
Narayan SW, et al. - Researchers performed this secondary analysis among patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) to compare how mannitol plus hypertonic saline combination (MHS) vs hypertonic saline monotherapy (HS) influence renal function in these patients. Data from the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium Hypertonic Saline Trial Shock Study and Traumatic Brain Injury Study were used. The maximum serum creatinine value during critical illness was assessed as the primary outcome measure. This analysis involved 163 patients in the MHS group and 163 patients in the HS group (n = 326). According to the findings, no increase in the risk of renal dysfunction was observed in correlation with the addition of mannitol to HS vs HS alone in patients with TBI.
