Effect of low-concentration carbohydrate on patient-centered quality of recovery in patients undergoing thyroidectomy: A prospective randomized trial
BMC Anesthesiology Apr 13, 2021
Wang S, Gao PF, Guo X, et al. - Among patients undergoing thyroidectomy, this inquiry was conducted to determine how patient-centered quality of recovery could be impacted by preoperative oral low-concentration carbohydrate. For this, researchers used Quality of Recovery − 15 questionnaire. Participants were 120 patients who were randomly assigned to oral intake of 300 ml carbohydrate solution (CH group) or 300 ml pure water (PW group) 2 h prior to surgery or fasting for 8 h prior to surgery (F group). Per findings, a reduction in postoperative hyperglycemia incidence as well as an improvement in patient-centered quality of recovery could be conferred by low-concentration carbohydrate in patients receiving open thyroidectomy at the early stage postoperatively.
