Effect of lipoprotein (a) levels on long-term cardiovascular outcomes in patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries

The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 16, 2021

Gao S, Ma W, Huang S, et al. - The present study was conducted to evaluate the impact of lipoprotein (a) levels on long-term cardiovascular outcomes in patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries. Researchers recruited a total of 1,179 patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) and classified them into low, medium, and high Lp(a) groups based on the cut-off value of 10 and 30mg/dL. They conducted Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses. In patients with MINOCA, elevated Lp(a) was strongly correlated with a poor prognosis. Adding Lp(a) to the traditional risk score further improved risk prediction. The data, for the first time, validated the Lp(a) as a residual risk factor for MINOCA.
