Effect of levothyroxine on pregnancy outcomes in women with thyroid autoimmunity: A systematic review with meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Fertility and Sterility Sep 13, 2020
Wang X, Zhang Y, Tan H, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, experts aspired to explore whether levothyroxine is correlated with improved live birth and other benefits in women with thyroid autoimmunity. Women positive for thyroid peroxidase antibody were analyzed in this investigation. MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials have been searched without any language restrictions. Using random-effects models, pooled effect sizes were calculated. Findings suggested no association of levothyroxine supplementation with an increased rate of live birth or a decreased risk of miscarriage. Outcomes were comparable in subgroup analyses of live birth by age, baseline thyrotropin, baseline thyroid peroxidase antibody, BMI, and use of assisted conception. High- to moderate-quality evidence showed that levothyroxine use was not associated with improvements in the outcomes of clinical pregnancy among women positive for thyroid peroxidase antibody.
