Effect of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy vs laparoscopic Roux-en-y gastric bypass on weight loss at 5 years among patients with morbid obesity: The SLEEVEPASS randomized clinical trial
JAMA Jan 24, 2018
Salminen P, et al. - This study was performed to determine whether laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass were equivalent for weight loss at 5 years in patients with morbid obesity. Compared with the use of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, use of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy did not meet criteria for equivalence regarding the percentage excess weight loss at 5 years among patients with morbid obesity. Gastric bypass compared with sleeve gastrectomy was correlated with greater percentage excess weight loss at 5 years, however, the difference was not statistically significant, based on the prespecified equivalence margins.
