Effect of L-citrulline supplementation on blood pressure: A systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials
Current Hypertension Reports Oct 06, 2018
Mirenayat MS, et al. – Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to determine whether L-citrulline supplementation positively impacts blood pressure levels. They analyzed data from human clinical trials that reported the effect of L-citrulline supplementation on aortic and brachial blood pressure. These studies were identified via a comprehensive search of Pubmed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and ISI Web of Science until May 2018. For meta-analysis, a total of five interventions were found. Findings demonstrated no significant influence of L-citrulline on brachial systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels. Also, L-citrulline supplementation resulted in no changes in aortic systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels. Overall, the investigators did not find any evidence to suggest that L-citrulline supplementation may have a beneficial effect on blood pressure.
