Effect of intravenous treatment with a balanced solution vs saline solution on mortality
JAMA Aug 14, 2021
Zampieri FG, Machado FR, Biondi RS, et al. - Treatment with a balanced solution vs saline solution did not result in significantly reduced 90-day mortality among critically ill patients requiring fluid challenges.
At 75 ICUs in Brazil, this double-blind, factorial, randomized clinical trial was conducted including 10,520 patients.
Ninety-day mortality of 26.4% was recorded in correlation with receiving intravenous fluid bolus treatment with a balanced solution vs 27.2% with saline solution, revealing a difference that was not statistically significant.
