Effect of intravenous dexamethasone on postoperative pain after spinal anaesthesia: A systematic review with meta-analysis and trial sequential analysis
Anaesthesia May 09, 2019
Heesen M, et al. - Researchers assessed the impact of intravenous dexamethasone on postoperative pain after spinal anaesthesia, via a systematic literature search followed by conventional meta-analysis (random effects model). They controlled for type-1 and -2 statistical errors by using trial sequential analysis. The primary outcome was the consumption of intravenous morphine in the first 24 postoperative hours, for which, a leave-one-out meta-analysis was carried out. A total of 17 trials providing data from 1133 patients were analyzed. A high level of evidence was found that showed improvement in postoperative analgesia after spinal anaesthesia in relation to the use of intravenous dexamethasone.
