Effect of interval between preoperative radiotherapy and surgery on clinical outcome and radiation proctitis in rectal cancer from FOWARC trial
Cancer Medicine Dec 18, 2019
Cheng YK, Qin QY, Huang XY, et al. - In this cohort study from a phase III, randomized controlled trial, surgery was done in 60 individuals following an interval of ≤ 7 weeks and in 97 people following an interval of > 7 weeks in order to assess the impact of the interval between chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and surgery on radiation proctitis, the pathologic response, and postoperative morbidity. This study found that a more prolonged period following CRT could be correlated with a greater rate of radiation proctitis and more extended operation time. Moreover, it did not raise the rate of pathologic complete remission.
