Effect of imipramine on urethral opening pressure: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study in healthy women
Neurourology and Urodynamics Mar 17, 2019
Kornholt J, et al. - In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study, 16 healthy females were quantified to delineate the impact of imipramine on opening urethral pressure vs placebo using urethral pressure reflectometry. They observed 13 adverse drug reactions related to imipramine in 6 candidates, 1 adverse effect associated with placebo, whereas 2 adverse events related to the measurements with urethral pressure reflectometry. They recorded an increase in opening urethral pressure with imipramine compared to placebo in the resting condition with 6.5 cmH2O and in the squeeze condition with 7.9 cmH2O. Hence, they did not suggest the off-label use of imipramine for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence.
