Effect of hysterectomy on pain in women with endometriosis: A population‐based registry study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Jun 15, 2020
Sandström A, Bixo M, Johansson M, et al. - Researchers examined pain symptoms before and after hysterectomy in women with endometriosis via performing a population‐based registry study in Sweden. The Swedish National Quality Register for Gynaecological Surgery yielded data from 137 women for inclusion in this study. Assessment of pain symptoms was also performed via follow‐up surveys after a median follow‐up period of 63 months. Per analysis, women with endometriosis had a significant, long‐lasting reduction in pain symptoms after hysterectomy. For women with endometriosis who suffer from severe pain symptoms, hysterectomy, with the possibility of ovarian preservation, is suggested as a valuable option.
