Effect of haemodialysis and residual renal function on serum levels of galectin-3, B-type natriuretic peptides and cardiac troponin T
Nephrology Oct 18, 2017
Roberts MA, et al. - In order to elucidate the association of residual renal function (RRF), urine output and haemodialysis itself on clinically important cardiac biomarkers in haemodialysis patients, researchers undertook this investigation. Findings demonstrated a decline in galectin-3 plasma concentration as a result of haemodialysis procedure. Data also indicated a strong association of lower RRF and urine volume with higher levels of galectin-3 and NT-Pro-BNP. Overall, clinical interpretation of these biomarker levels in haemodialysis patients essentially requires consideration of these links.
