Effect of exercise and nutrition prehabilitation on functional capacity in esophagogastric cancer surgery: A randomized clinical trial
JAMA Dec 24, 2018
Minnella EM, et al. - Researchers conducted a randomized clinical trial at McGill University Health Centre (Montreal, Quebec, Canada) to study whether prehabilitation, a preoperative conditioning intervention aiming to optimize physical status, is effective in improving functional status in patients undergoing esophagogastric cancer resection. Study participants were adults awaiting elective esophagogastric resection for cancer. In the primary analysis, 68 patients were randomized and 51 included. They observed that prehabilitation improves perioperative functional capacity in esophagogastric surgery. The findings suggested that the decline in physical and nutritional status of patients could have a significant effect on the cancer care continuum.
