Effect of dynamic vs stylet-guided intubation on first-attempt success in difficult airways undergoing Glidescope laryngoscopy: A randomized controlled trial
Anesthesia & Analgesia May 23, 2019
Mazzinari G, et al. - Among adult patients (n=160) with predicted difficult airway, researchers investigated if the combined use of Glidescope and fiberscope used only as a dynamic guide facilitated tracheal intubation compared to a conventional Glidescope technique with a preshaped nondynamic stylet. They found that first-attempt intubation success was improved and the incidence of airway injury, time to successful intubation, and the requirement of an alternative technique to succeed were decreased as a result of using a dynamic, flexible guide during a Glidescope laryngoscopy vs a standard intubation technique in patients with a predicted difficult airway.
