Effect of doxepin mouthwash or diphenhydramine-lidocaine-antacid mouthwash vs placebo on radiotherapy-related oral mucositis pain: The Alliance A221304 Randomized Clinical Trial
JAMA Apr 21, 2019
Sio TT, et al. - For the treatment of oral mucositis-related pain, researchers assessed the impact of doxepin mouthwash or diphenhydramine-lidocaine-antacid mouthwash in among patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy. Of the 275 randomized patients, 227 completed treatment per protocol in this randomized clinical trial. According to findings, the use of doxepin mouthwash or diphenhydramine-lidocaine-antacid mouthwash vs placebo significantly reduced oral mucositis pain during the first 4 hours following administration in patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy. The effect size, however, was less than the clinically significant minimal difference.
