Effect of diabetes mellitus on complication rates of coronary artery bypass grafting
The American Journal of Cardiology Aug 10, 2019
Brush JE, Siraj ES, Kemp CD, et al. - In order to guide revascularization decisions in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients, researchers focused on the impact of DM on postoperative coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) complications in this single-center study including patients undergoing CABG. They compared patients with no DM vs patients with DM, sub-classified based on whether or not insulin was received before admission (Insulin and No Insulin Groups). After adjusting for other clinical factors, in-hospital mortality or combined in-hospital postoperative events were not predicted by DM. Prediction of permanent stroke, surgical site infection, and new renal failure was enabled by DM in this investigation of consecutively treated CABG patients.
