Effect of dexmedetomidine for attenuation of propofol injection pain in electroconvulsive therapy: A randomized controlled study

Li X, et al. - It was demonstrated in this study that dexmedetomidine administered prior to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) attenuated the propofol injection pain without interfering with the seizure duration and causing adverse effects such as bradycardia and hypotension among study participants recruited for ECT. Additionally, close monitoring of hemodynamic variables and preparation of a treatment plan and drugs for bradycardia were crucial.
